Volunteering

Opportunities

  • Pets awaiting new homes need special T.L.C. Volunteering at The Mission includes exercising and socializing dogs or cats, kennel cleaning, grooming, laundry, and clerical work. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to apply. Once trained, volunteers are scheduled to come in once a week for at least a 2-hour shift. Shift times start at 10 am, 3 pm, or 7 pm. Volunteers work with minimum supervision. Volunteers working with dogs need to be physically able to handle very large, enthusiastic dogs.

  • Petvalu allows us to house our cats in their Media location. We have volunteers who go to the store twice a day to ensure our cats' cages are clean and healthy. Volunteers who apply for this duty will go through an orientation and will be partnered with someone until they feel confident they can do the duty on their own. Volunteers must sign up for a shift on the monthly calendar to remain active.

  • Foster families care for our orphaned animals in their homes. Fostering provides many levels of care for our rescues ranging from a warm, quiet place to promote weight gain, to socialization with humans and other animals, and to adjusting to new noises and surroundings. Our most intensive level of care is bottle-feeding or medical administration around the clock. Foster homes are our lifeline. We encourage everyone who is able to foster an orphaned animal to do so. R2R provides a crate, all food, any approved medical treatment, and a ton of support.

  • We hold several fundraising and adoption events throughout the month. Volunteers for events will be responsible for set up and breakdown of necessary promotional items. In addition, volunteers are needed to handle dogs at most adoption events.

  • Be a part of planning fun and productive events! Opportunities are available to take on leadership and support roles for fundraising events. Positions include marketing and fundraising, planning and completion of tasks within deadlines, clerical and phone assistance, preparation of mailings, set up and take down on the day of the event, etc. Opportunities to help with securing event underwriting, auction items, and sponsorships may also be available. These volunteers plan details of all major events from beginning to end.

  • A fun and flexible way to help the orphaned animals. Join a program where you monitor donation canisters in retail locations near your home. Volunteers exchange full canisters for empty ones on a weekly basis. This is a great opportunity for junior volunteers.

  • Transporting our animals is crucial. We need help meeting out-of-state transport, vet visits, home checks, and moving animals from one center to another. If you love to drive, this is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!
